TEEN PROGRAM
Our Higher Ground Teen Community is a free weekly program open to everyone. We offer a range of activities and learning opportunities with a goal of developing our teens to have excellent social, cognitive, creative, vocational and citizenship competence. Higher Ground teens are mentored by college students and Higher Ground staff who encourage and support the group to achieve their goals.

Cognitive/Creative Competence
Art therapy and art workshops give our teens the opportunity to participate in many areas of creative expression. Teens will gain the ability to appreciate creative thinking and to develop an interest in all forms of art.
WHEN
Wednesdays: 3:30-6:00
Teen volunteer opportunities and homework help are available every day.
Our Goals

Health and Physical Competence
Learning opportunities such as cooking and exercise classes are offered. We strive to teach appropriate knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that will ensure future health in all areas.

Personal/Social Competence
We create a welcoming, safe community and offer volunteer and leadership opportunities to our teens. Over time they will develop better intrapersonal, interpersonal, coping, and judgment skills.

Vocational Competence
Our goal is to create a broad understanding of vocational options including post-secondary education and trade school. What are the steps needed to obtain this? How does one prepare for and apply to college or the working world? All of these choices are explored and supported.

Citizenship (ethics and participation)
We work to instill a strong sense of community. Concepts like how to make a difference, where to look for help and being part of a bigger picture are examined. We also explore the value of community and how to be aware of what is ethical and efforts that contribute to the greater good.
