All of our Higher Ground Literacy Tutors empower, mentor, and challenge our youth academically through thought-provoking literacy lessons and reading sessions. Join Our After-School Mentorship Team
Youth mentors at Higher Ground are critical, positive influences on youth living in underserved communities. They foster a commitment to these elementary and middle school youth as they promote good educational habits, strong interpersonal skills, and a sense of empowerment through various activities. They help our students gain confidence and open up their world to new purposes and possibilities for their lives.
Mentors are trusted adults who engage with our youth in an after-school program setting. Mentors will assist our youth with activities such as homework help, performing arts, fine arts, digital video media, cooking, and all sports. We uphold a small ratio of children to mentors so the interaction is close and meaningful. Our goal is to motivate students to find their personal and positive life paths.

Join Our Family Wellness Team
Higher Ground is committed to expanding our scope of work in mental health services based on requests from our community partners. Many families have no health insurance and few treatment options other than referrals from school psychologists which parents may or may not be able to afford or be willing to pursue. We have established a customized Family Wellness Center at Lincoln Park that provides mental health services to youth and their families who currently participate in Higher Ground and all new families who seek us out or are referred to us by local schools. We provide a safe, healthy, positive environment for youth and families seeking mental health services.

Join our Human Trafficking Prevention Team
Higher Ground is working on the prevention of human trafficking in our community through education and awareness. Our curriculum focuses on self-esteem, healthy relationships, social media, and human trafficking. The 5-week peer-facilitated program presents human trafficking prevention to a highly vulnerable and targeted demographic and builds a relationship with the students.

Join Our Summer Camp Team
Summer Camp is a time for fun! Mentoring is always a part of everything we do, but our focus during this academic break is a more active approach to personal growth. Throughout the 8-week program, our staff members engage youth in a variety of activities such as STEM, art, music, dance, all sports, and various field trips. As always, our youth are surrounded by caring and competent adults, peer leaders, and volunteers who join them in activities. Our summer camp participants are youth and adolescents from 7 to 17 years of age.
